Saidye Bronfman Award Winner: Louise Lemieux Bérubé
Louise Lemieux Bérubé is a leading craftsperson whose career has focused on innovation and excellence in the practice of weaving, and in craft education and development for textile artists in Québec and Canada.
Bérubé’s work has wielded an extraordinary international influence over the past 30 years. Her woven creations have received multiple honours and have been exhibited and sold in Canada and internationally. Notably, she has represented Québec by participating in numerous international exhibitions as well as biennials and triennials of either fibre and textile art, or craft and design in general.
In recognition of her contributions to craft and craft education, Bérubé has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prix des métiers d’art du Québec in 1993, her induction as a knight into the Ordre national du Québec in 2013, her induction into the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec in 2015, and the Robert Jekyll Prize for her leadership in Canadian arts and crafts in 2020.
