After spending 17 years as a photographer, Quin decided to settle down. Recalling her love of clay, it was like “a light had switched on.” Only two years into her practice, Quin’s clean and functional ceramics reflect a clear intuition for design.

“I had to try it again...it was a strong pull, I had to follow it.”

Working with a clear bright white or a speckle clay, the clay recalls its organic nature. With a clear matte glaze, the clay body shines through. Black brush strokes resonate over the work, recalling Quin’s asian heritage through an interpreted calligraphy.

Quin makes functional work which she terms as practical. “Functional work is for use, you need to be able to use it. There’s a joy and satisfaction in that.” Quin considers herself a maker who values the learning process and pursuit of excellence at her craft every day.

Quin’s monochromatic palette is a manifestation of her minimalist aesthetic, choosing structure and form over decoration. She allows form to dictate the work, dabbling in glaze combinations.

Quin’s penchant for vessel forms, from vases to cups and teapots, are about ceramics holding something beautiful and precious, “I love knowing my vessels not only look and feel beautiful, they are made to nourish both the body and soul.”
